A very interesting blog post of how two teachers use interactive vocabulary journals integrated into Daily 5. They also include a way for students to self- assess their familiarity with a weekly list of words. A well structured model to follow based on best-practice research.

This week I want to let you know about a website that aids in vocabulary development. There are over 700 music videos that are content topics put to rap lyrics and rap music. As you all know, there is a lot of research that supports the benefit of music when students are learning information.... it is actually like repeated reading. Not only are there over 700 music videos but there are interactive lyrics, lesson plans, and assessments included with each music video. . Right now, there is a 75 day trial using this code bit.ly/flo75 trial only valid through March 15. Otherwise there is a 30 day trial. I have signed up for the school trial and will email the login information once I get a return email. Here is an article that highlights the importance of a vocabulary-rich classroom.

When teachers copy and paste a URL into the box, they have two options: 1) Rewordify the web page and display it (retaining all photographs) or 2) Rewordify the web page text only.

If teachers click “Rewordify web page & display it,” the web page will appear with yellow wording adjustments in yellow throughout.

See the tutorial below that explains more about this support for text that may be difficult. It is also helpful in supporting students' who need more control over vocabulary development. Some websites that enable you to find short text that may be more complex but provide great resources include:
